Dr. Mabel Lopez’s passion for mental wellness is the inspiration for Mind and Brain Care. Dr. Lopez’s exceptional education and vast professional experiences enable her to address brain health on multiple levels and ensures that the cognitive and emotional needs of every patient is met. Her services are all available in English and Spanish.
Dr. Mabel Lopez is a prominent figure in the Southwest Florida community, dedicated to mental health through her extensive volunteer work. Her involvement spans numerous associations and organizations where she serves as a volunteer, leader, and advisor. Although she is not employed by these organizations, her significant contributions have earned her appointments and responsibilities in well-known institutions.
From 2022 to present, Dr. Lopez has served on the board of Christian Medical Ministry (CMM), which runs the only free medical clinic in the US specializing in the comprehensive treatment of acute and chronic pain. CMM is also part of the Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) network, helping those suffering from Biotoxin Illness. The clinic's mission is to deliver high-quality, compassionate healthcare services at no cost, ensuring that those without access to traditional medical resources receive the care they need.
From 2009 to 2020, Dr. Lopez served in various roles with the Alvin A. Dubin Alzheimer’s Resource Center, including Advisory Counsel Member (2009-2012), Board of Trustee (2013-present), Executive Committee Member (2015-present), Secretary (2016-2019), and Member at Large (2019-2020). This local United Way organization supports Alzheimer’s patients and their caregivers in Lee County, Florida. Dr. Lopez advocates for the center’s services, which are provided at no cost and aim to enhance the quality of life for patients and caregivers. Mind and Brain Care has proudly sponsored Brushstrokes for the Soul (2015, 2016, and 2017), an art auction benefiting the center.
Dr. Lopez was the president (2010-2012) and board representative (2011-2013) for the Calusa Chapter of the Florida Psychological Association.
Dr. Lopez also served as Chief of Psychiatry and Psychology (2008-2012) at Lee Health and currently holds hospital privileges at all local hospitals. She is available for consultations and accepts referrals on a case-by-case basis.
In addition to her local contributions, Dr. Lopez was a member of the advisory committee for the American Psychological Association’s Division 40 (Neuropsychology) and Ethnic Minority Affairs (EMA) committee (2010-2012).
Dr. Lopez completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship/Residency in Neuropsychology at the Department of Clinical & Health Psychology, University of Florida, in 2006, where she led the Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory at the McKnight Brain Institute. She supervised neuropsychology interns, graduate students, and provided research and clinical care at The University of Florida Movement Disorders Center.
Her educational background includes a Ph.D. (2004) in Clinical Psychology from the Rosalind Franklin School of Science and Medicine/The Chicago Medical School, where she specialized in Neuropsychology. Her dissertation focused on “Mild Cognitive Impairment: Memory, Affect, and Diagnostic Screening” under the supervision of professor John Woodard, Ph.D.. She earned her Master’s of Science degree under the supervision of professor David S. Kosson, Ph.D., with a thesis on “Assessment of Interhemispheric Integration in Psychopaths.”
Dr. Lopez earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology with a Biology minor from Barry University, where she was recognized as the Top Psychology Graduate in 1996. Her honors thesis was “Global-Local Analysis of Divided Attention in a College Population.”
Additionally, Dr. Lopez was the host of "Viva Su Salud," a Spanish television talk show that aired on Telemundo.
